Your suggestion about getting professional help for plumbing and electrical works, really saved me from lot of troubles. I did a lot of research before deciding to call Newton Plumbing, a local Los Angeles plumber. I talked with them for almost 20 minutes on the pro’s and con’s of DIY. What it came down to was that it would’ve been too expensive to buy all the tools and materials myself, so they ended up doing the work for a pretty reasonable cost. If you already have the tools, it would be worth it. At least I didn’t have to worry about if I was going to mess it up or not!

Bathroom renovations can look great when you do them right. Always pay close attention to what you’re doing to make sure you don’t mess up. I’ve seen a few that were just horrible.

Bathrooms can easily be upgraded. I’m not all that handy, but I’ve tackled a ‘john’ or two in my day.

Start with easy stuff like towel racks. New bath tub grout makes it look clean.

Re-tiling is a bit of a job, but it sure looks nice! Of course, you could install a fiberglass enclosure to take care of it all in one clean sweep!

Bathrooms are often on the list for a DIY project as they are normally smaller rooms that people think they can handle. But it is wise to really research every aspect of the room before you tackle major renovations. Good preparation is a key factor, and a bathroom is one of the worst rooms to have half done for any amount of time.

Great information. I agree that in order to save money it is a good idea to do the tearing out etc yourself but when it comes to installing electrical and plumbing I would get a pro.

If your looking to do-it-your-self then make sure you research each individual product on the internet. If you are looking to tile then you need to have a good tile cutter (a rental from Home Depot, etc.) If your looking to live at this place long term then go for copper pipe. If your looking to turn-around this place then go for galvanized pipe. Everything you need to do to your place is easy as long as you follow the multiple sources opinions listed online. Never follow one source, check many on you DIYS missions, because 40% are wrong.
