Accurately Calculate The Cost Of Bathroom Renovations

No two bathroom renovation projects are the same or cost the same. Very similar bathrooms can still have very different costs depending on what needs to be done in the renovation.  The cost of your bathroom renovation is going to depend on several variables.

How Big Is Your Bathroom?

In order to calculate the costs of bathroom renovations, you need to know how many square feet of floor space needs renovation.  If you are leaving the floors alone, get a good measurement of your wall space.  Good measurements will give you the information you need to purchase the right materials at the right price.  Get a ruler or tape measure and write down your findings (numbers are easy to forget).  If you are not sure, guess that you have more square feet rather than less.  That way you’ll be sure you have what you need and won’t be short on materials.

Choosing Materials

Choosing materials is another important part of figuring the cost of bathroom renovations.  For example, you may want to put in granite countertops or custom cabinets, but they can be very expensive.  To watch the cost and get the look you are going for, try mixing in some expensive accents with more general pieces.  The cost of your bathroom renovation can be reduced if you choose one over the other.  For example, you could choose the counter top and put it on a less expensive cabinet.  You may want to tile the floors, walls, or just the shower walls.  Knowing what you want to do and what materials you want to use will help you determine if you can afford to make those changes.

Choosing A Contractor

Don’t just go with the first contractor that gives you an estimate.  Shop around.  Always get the estimate in writing.  The estimate shouldn’t cost you anything.  This estimate will include labor charges of how many days they think they can do the project.  Only do it yourself if you have experience.  It can increase the cost of your project, your stress level, and the number of things that will need to be corrected.

There are other tools available online, like remodeling cost calculators, if you don’t have the time to meet with several contractors regarding your bathroom.  You’ll need to answer questions about the total square footage of the bathroom and what type of materials you were thinking of using in ode to help the on line calculator do it’s job.

I bought my house through Taylor Morrison and chose base board hot water heat for my heating option. The hot water circulates around my floor and keeps it nice and warm. If you’d like to learn more about Taylor Morrison you can request information from their website and when you do you’ll be signed up to win a dream vacation at http://dreambig.taylormorrison.com/?utm_source=bc. While it’s warm enough for me to walk around in just my socks, my wife wishes we had this option in the bathroom. Would baseboard hot water work in your design?

please tell me how much it would be to just do the plumbing in a bathroom renovation. We already have the new fixtures, but need a plumber to hook it all up. thanks!

Great question and really one that is difficult to answer without knowing specifics. What are you trying to install? A new shower, a new toilet, a new bathroom vanity? Is it a bathroom in a new house or is it a remodel? Will you be needing to install any new pipes? If it is a remodel, are your current pipes up to standard?

Please feel free to provide more detail and we will be glad to give you a ballpark figure.

sites like this stink. why not just say a basic surface remodel costs XX thousand, and starting from scratch with new walls costs XXX thousand. a matrix of options also works.

    Hey John,
Sorry you feel this way. While you’re approach does have some merit I’m doing my best to explain it in a way that I think most people will understand. I’ll take your “constructive” criticism and see if I can work your logic into a similar post.

Any renovation regardless of the project can time consuming but well worth the effort. Next time when renovating consider Renovation Boys – they did a great job! http://www.renovationboys.com.au/
